Take up arms (Skyrim walkthrough).

The Take Up Arms (Skyrim) mission is the first Skyrim mission within the Companions questline. Your first encounter with the companions will (most likely) be outside the Pelagia Farm, where you will encounter Aela the hunteress and two of the other companions in a fight with a giant, amongst the cabbage field.. depending on if you help them battle the giant or not, they will either like you or dislike you (initially).

Speaking to Aela after the battle, she will tell you more about the companions, and that they reside in the house of Jorrvaskr, in the city of Whiterun. Once there, you need to speak to Kodlak Whitemane, who is the unofficial leader of the Companions, to initiate the mission. This mission is your initiation mission to enter the world of the Companions.

Mission objectives:

1. - Train with Vilkas

2. - Give Vilkas' sword to Eorlund

3. - Bring Aela her shield

4. - Follow Farkas to your living quarters

1. Train with Vilkas

First of all, Kodlak and Vilkas wants to see if you are any good at close-quarter combat, and thus you are asked to battle Vilkas in the Jorrvaskr training grounds. Speak with Vilkas to start the training. Vilkas will not attack you, but merely ask you to take some swings at him; do not be afraid to hurt him, just swing away with your weapon of choice. After a couple of hits you will have finished this part of the mission. Vilkas will say that he is impressed by your strength, and then he will ask you to run an errand for him. Bringing his sword to Eorlund Gray-Mane, the Skyforge blacksmith.

2. Bring Vilkas' sword to Eorlund

After showing your strength in combat, Vilkas will remind you that you are still not even a Companions' recruit, and ask you to run an errand for him. Bringing his sword, a Skyforge steel sword, to the Skyforge blacksmith, Eorlund Gray-Mane, to have it sharpened. The Skyforge is located just next to the house of Jorrvaskr, just up the stairs.

3. Bring Aela her shield

After you have spoken to Eorlond Gray-mane, and he has told you a little bit more about the Companions and their history and origin, he will ask you of a favour. To bring Aela's shield to Aela the hunteress. You will find her in her room, in the Jorrvaskr living quarters. She will thank you for bringing her the shield, and again you will learn a bit more about the Companions. She will also compliment you on the way you fought Vilkas earlier, saying that you seem to have a fire of passion burning inside of you, which will benefit the Companions' greatly. She calls out for Farkas, and asks him to show you to your living quarters; with the other Companions' apprentices.

4. Follow Farkas to your living quarters

Farkas will bring you to your living quarters, and tell you to choose a bed. He states that he is pleased to see you deciding to join the Companions, but that you still have a long way to go before joining their higher ranks. He further says to come ask him or Aela if you enquire any further work. If you ask Farkas, he will tell you that they are having some trouble with the Forsworn out at the Whiterun Hold. This will start the Trouble in Skyrim mission. If you further talk to Farkas, he will give you the Hired muscle mission as well.

You have now finished the Take Up Arms mission.

Rewards:

- Becoming a Companion apprentice/recruit

- Your own bed in the house of Jorrvaskr

- Finishing Take Up Arms, unlocks 'Trouble in Skyrim', 'Hired Muscle', 'Animal Extermination', 'Family Heirloom' and 'Rescue mission' -missions. These missions are all repeatable and randomized. A good way to level up.

Next mission: Trouble in Skyrim (Skyrim walk through).
