I will cut straight to the chase, as I guess you are longing to get on with Skyrim, exploring Bleak Falls Barrow and Bleak Falls Sanctum. There are two puzzles in Bleak Falls Barrow, and this article reveals the answer to them both, if you only want to read the answer for the first puzzle, please do not read further than the spoiler alert.

Ok, so you are in a huge room, three movable pillars on your left, a locked gate and a lever at your front, and you are wondering how you find the combination which opens the iron gate. Well, here is the answer, have a look around the room.

Do you see any of the same symbols as the movable pillars? There is one directly to the left of the lever, and two on the wall above the gate. Reading from left to right you will find your answer for the movable pillars (to be inserted from left to right as well). In my case the answer was SNAKE symbol - SNAKE symbol - FISH symbol, but this may vary with gameplay. So, the most important thing is to know how to find the solution yourself.

Second spoiler alert for the second puzzle.

Secondly, we move on to the second puzzle. Later on in Bleak Falls Sanctum you meet a similar puzzle to the first one, a big door, locked with a similar pattern of symbols, three of them to be specific. The door puzzle consists of an outer ring, middle ring and inner ring, which are all movable and can portray three different symbols. Before I give you another hint, read Alvars journal and take note of the sentence;

… ”the answer will at this time be in your hand” …

And what are you currently holding in your hand which would fit nicely in the lock on the door? Yes, indeed, the golden claw. Open your inventory and inspect the claw, you can see three symbols from top to bottom, press the zoom button (RS on xbox 360) to have a closer look at the symbols. You read them, and insert them in the puzzle from top to bottom. In my case, the answer was; polar bear (outer ring), butterfly (middle ring) and owl (for the inner ring), but this may vary with gameplay.
