What is Movember?
Not acquainted with the month of Movember? Well, have no fear.. I am here to assist you in the most moustachy manner.
First, think of the structure of this wonderful word “Mo-vember”. Taste it, let the magnificent word seduce those delicate tastebuds of yours. You got it Sherlock. Movember is a mix of the word Moustache and November. An honorary month where moustaches are celebrated all across the world in an annual charity event, a fundraising event to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and to raise community awareness of Men's Health Issues. It was first started in Adelaide, Australia in 1999. Now, ten years after its birth it has grown and expanded to be a worldwide acclaimed charity event.
Persons participating in this charity event are known as mo-bros or mo-sisters. Naturally, mo-sisters partake mainly in moustache growth encouragement and inspiration. There are a number of official rules which the Movember participants have to follow and honor.
Here is an extract from the official Movember website movember.org, with the Movember rules:
- On day "Mo-1" (October 31), the complete moustache region, including the entire upper lip and the handlebar zones, must be completely shaved.
- For the entire duration of Movember (Movember 1 - 32 inclusive), no hair shall be allowed to grow in the goatee zone - being any facial area below the bottom lip.
- There is to be no joining of the moustache to sideburns.
- Failure to conform to all of these rules may, at the discretion of the official Movember Committee, result in instant blacklisting and may void invitation to the Mo Ball.
Movember Committee accepts no responsibility for lost jobs, rashes, food/beer encrustments or any other such mishaps caused to the wearer (or his partner) of a Movember Moustache. You grew it yourself.
Here is an overview of the different types of moustaches (right side). Personally, I think I might go for the trucker this year, 2010. Unless anybody of the readers have any objections, I am open to suggestions. Hit me. _________________________________

What a great read! My brother in law participates in this each year and wins! My Dad on the other hand, just sports a "stach" all year long!
Ok...I just came on line to hubpages and so I'm a tad late in responding to this. So...how did you do? Did you get a full on handle bar mustache? I must say I have always been a sucker for face hair, but there are limits. However, since this is a fund raiser, I suppose those limits can be postponed. This is too funny. I always knew November was special, it being my birth month, but now I have a new found affinity for it.
