Fixing Adobe Media Encoder Export Failure in Premiere Pro CS5 on Windows 7.

I recently invested in Premiere Pro CS5 and was having all sorts of fun editing my HD files (.m2ts) using this magnificent video editing softward, when suddenly disaster struck.. on a larger project I had been working on for days till' end, CS5 stop responding when trying to export .AVI files, usually stopping at around 85-89%. This freeze up was often accompanied by a error message. Later in this article you will learn how to access the Adobe Premiere Pro Encoding Log file and Error Log file, which should help you diagnose the problem you are experiencing.

I tried finding a solution to my the problem online, but the only answers I got was “update your drivers” and similar. However, the solution came when I was playing around to see if there were some settings I could change. I saw the ‘metadata’ option and as this is something the encoder has to deal with on top of the rendering/encoding workload. Here is a solution you can try which worked for me:

Steps for fixing the Premiere Pro CS5 and Media Encoder issues:

1. Open the export window within the CS5 interface. EXPORT > MEDIA.

2. Choose the appropriate file extension you want to export.

3. Press the METADATA… button

4. Under SOURCE METADATA select > PRESERVATION RULES and > EXCLUDE ALL

5. Under OUTPUT FILE METADATA > EXPORT TEMPLATE > and press NEW

6. Create a new EXPORT TEMPLATE called NONE, where you include none of the previously tagged boxes and options.

7. Select the new "NONE" template from the pop-up menu.

Even though you are not having major issues with premier pro CS5 freezing up / crashing while exporting, this method can save you heaps of time when exporting larger files, as applying these changes should speed up your exporting with an approximate 50++ percent.

How to access the Premier Pro CS5 Encoding log file and/or Error log file
How to access the Premier Pro CS5 Encoding log file and/or Error log file

To help diagnose the exact problem you have accessing the CS5 'Encoding log file' and/or 'Error log file' might be very helpful. Please see our guide below on how you find these specific files.

Encoding log file

Depending on what operative system you are running on the encoding log file may be found in the following locations:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.0\AMEEncodingLog.txt

Windows Vista: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.0\AMEEncodingLog.txt

Windows 7: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\AMEEncodingLog.txt

Mac OS: Macintosh HD/Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/5.0/AMEEncodingLog.txt

The encoding log file contains a record of all the files you have encoded, including those which were not properly encoded. The newest entries are kept at the end of the file. It is a text file which adds encoding entries automatically. If you want to you can clear the log by opening the file in a plain text editor, then selecting all of the entries, deleting them, and finishing by saving the empty file using its original default filename (AMEEncodingLog.txt)

Error log file

Depending on what operative system you are running on the error log file may be found in the following locations:

The error log file is stored in the following location:

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.0\AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt

Windows Vista: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.0\AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt

Windows 7: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt

Mac OS: Macintosh HD/Users/[user]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/5.0/AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt

To view the error log file, choose File > Show Errors.

Hey, when i did this step after creating new-none folder there were still a few boxs in the new none folder but they werent checked and dont recall if they were checkable or not. Did i do this correctly? Should it be empty?

6. Create a new EXPORT TEMPLATE called NONE, where you include none of the previously tagged boxes and options.
